Danny Bell is from Sheffield, in his mid twenties, with a love of Yorkshire so strong he says he would gladly die for his birthplace. We choose a younger voice as we wanted to get away from the older celebrity narrators who seem to dominate this style of programme.
Traditionally narration is more of an add on, but we wanted to achieve something different
‘All Rivers Great and Small’ is not just a series that reveals the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. By exploring the river valleys in the company of true locals, it provides an illuminating insight into how the character of Yorkshire men and women has been shaped by the land and how they in turn have influenced the landscape. This is psychogeography removed from the urban environment and put back into the rural setting where it belongs. It is also a series of entertaining trips with three opinionated and engaging products of ‘God’s Own County’.
So we needed the narrator to be the traditional glue as well as being more in focus to drive the direction we needed. We also wanted to bring in some poetry as that so much better describes the beautiful landscape, than mere simple words.
